‘I have always drawn and painted, and searched for an avenue for self expression. This has gone hand in hand with my love of nature, and I would spend hours as a little girl collecting wild flowers, making little posies, pressing them, drawing them and turning them into pictures and cards. So Mary’s House Designs seems like a natural progression! Sending a card is the most lovely way to show you care and I love that the illustrations I make get sent all over and treasured, so you share in my love of nature and creating.
It makes me very happy to know that my illustrations are helping people to stay in touch and show their love for one another, as well as sending thank yous and good wishes all over the world.’
My name is Angela and I’m the artist behind Mary's House Designs. I create sweet and colourful illustrated designs with inspiration drawn from nature, memories and daydreaming. Across the collections of cards, prints and homewares you will see repeated natural elements, the written word and imaginative, playful elements too. I work from my home studio in Sheffield, close to the green parks in the city and the rolling hills of the Peak district.
I create all of my illustrations using traditional drawing, paint and print media, you can see the pen and paint marks if you look closely! As a print-maker, I am a natural mark-maker and I use a black pen to draw, ink and watercolour to paint, and combine these with collage to create the work; each design begins its life as an individual hand drawn and painted artwork which can then be applied across products including art prints for the home, stationery and homeware. In the work I express my love of nature, imagination, pattern and colour to create each piece.
My work is stocked in independent retailers and galleries across the country as well as online retailers.
